    This story by Wade Hall begins with Salida setting up business across the Arkansas River from the D&RG in 1880. Photographic coverage concentrates on the railroad yards and station, the hub of Salida's economy for many years. Many of the earliest engines, cars and cabooses appear in these pictures, along with giant standard-gauge steam locomotives.
